You could play a mean lick; people pay a lot for that. However you know of yourself that you tend to choke quite frequently, always failing to live up to the perfect version of a musician in your head. Perhaps you are too hard on yourself and too lenient on others. People have given you positive feedback about your playing before, still you are convinced it's bad. Someone even told you it's performer's anxiety, that it sounds bad to the performer even though it sounds good to the audience. Yet this critical judgement of your own playing is needed, that is what you know. Without you there to hone your skills, who is going to do it? Other musicians don't reach the level they're at by hating what they do, that's for sure. In fact they might not even do it the way you imagine they do. Or it's even that it doesn't matter how they get there if that's not what works for me. For me it's rather unpredictable, but the key stays the same: don't force yourself. 6.
